Getting a Child to Appreciate Math
Getting a Child to Appreciate Math Getting a Child to Appreciate Math For some students, math skills come easily, as do the aptitudes needed to be a successful math student: analyzing patterns, thinking logically and critically, and solving problems. However, for others, math concepts are difficult to grasp and the more complex they become, the more students want to give up altogether. If your child isnt one of the fortunate students for which math clicks effortlessly, it may not be possible for you to convince him or her to like math. However, you can encourage your child to appreciate math for the practical and useful life skill that it is. Here are a few tips on how to help your student appreciate math and its importance. Point out math in everyday life. You dont have to look too hard to find math in day-to-day lifefrom weather forecasting to telling time to using cell phones and computers. From the time your child is old enough to understand the basic concepts of math, highlight math being used everywhere you go. Call attention to math in various careers. Certainly, its easier to see why professionals in accounting, engineering and science need math. However, the reality is that math is a skill required by many jobs. For business owners and entrepreneurs, math is an essential part of the companys purchasing, budgeting, finance and other functions. Those working in real estate or sales likely have monthly sales targets to meet in order to earn carefully calculated bonuses. Landscapers or architects use math skills to create scaled drawings and to calculate and order the right amount of supplies. Use money. Your child might not enjoy worksheets of math problems, but theres a good chance he or she is interested in moneyor at least interested in earning money. Help your child open his or her first bank account and teach him or her how to maintain the savings register. Together, calculate how much interest he or she could earn each month based on the accounts interest rate. Put together a spreadsheet that gives your child a weekly savings goal to save up for that iPad. Discuss your own relationship with math. Does your child see you using math? Be sure to explain how and where you use math in your daily life. If you maintain the family budget, have your child help you with this task so he or she gets a sense of how your family keeps track of your income, expenses, savings and more. Show your child how you use math in cooking and when comparison shopping. Your child might never feel enthusiastic about math, but with some effort on your part, you can impart in him or her an appreciation for the importance of the subject. Look around and you will find a multitude of opportunities to show your child math in usefrom complex math to everyday math. Keep in mind that math is a subject that requires students to continually build skills. If your child struggles with basic concepts, more complex math will only prove frustrating. If your child is struggling, call Huntington. We can design a customized program to help your child overcome any problems with math and get back on the road to school success. 4 Reasons to Broaden Your Vocabulary - TutorNerds
4 Reasons to Broaden Your Vocabulary - TutorNerds Tips from an Orange County Writing Tutor: 4 reasons to broaden your vocabulary Whether students are in elementary school or preparing for their SATs, they will benefit from a broad and varied vocabulary. Many students are marked down because they use the same two adjectives over and over again in a research paper or struggle with reading comprehension because there are too many words they dont recognize. By the time students get into the upper grades its important they understand how to recognize different types of words, can tell the difference between positive, negative and neutral connotations, and understand different types of jargon. These skills will be helpful as a K-12 student, but they will become essential when students go out into the world to focus on college and career. 1. One word at a time When students are assigned 20 or 30 new terms at a time, they tend to learn almost none of them. Learning new words is just like learning peoples names; its easy to remember one new person but meeting 20 people at once usually results in disaster. Its the same with vocabulary so students should focus on learning one word at a time and learning it well. They should be able to understand when its appropriate to use a particular word, be able to use it in their sentence, and know whether the word has a positive or negative connotation. 2. Words in context Its also important for students to be able to recognize words in context. A new word can have very different meanings depending on the other words around it. Is the term used sarcastically by a character in a novel? Is it meant as an insult or compliment when said out loud? Students need to know how to use words in their own spoken context as well as in their writing so that what they are trying to communicate makes sense (READ: Fullerton AP Tutoring Tips: 5 Ways to Ace AP World History). 3. Test prep vocabulary Nearly every college prep student dreads the thought of studying their SAT or ACT vocabulary. Thats because its pretty boring to memorize a list of new words. However, students can learn new words and understand how theyre meant to be used if they learn just a few words at a time and have a chance to be able to confidently use these words in their writing before they have a new set of words to focus on. This means they should start with their vocabulary study well in advance of their test date. 4. Effective communication Effective communication is required at every stage of learning and becomes essential when students get out into the workforce. They need to be able to recognize what people mean by what they say, essentially reading in between the lines. Students need to be able to understand what somebody is asking of them and also understand how to ask questions themselves effectively. Having a broad vocabulary is a big part of successful communication and can benefit students for the rest of their lives. Want to improve your writing skills? Female Doctors Better for Your Health
Female Doctors Better for Your Health pixabay.com According to Dr. Ashish Jha, âthereâs a lot of evidence out there that male and female physicians practice medicine a little bit differently ⦠The data out there says that women physicians tend to be a little bit better at sticking to the evidence and doing the things that we know work better ⦠We estimate that approximately 32,000 fewer patients would die if male physicians could achieve the same outcomes as female physicians every year.â The records for over 1.5 million elderly, Medicare patients that were admitted to hospitals for medical reasons (not surgery) between the years 2011 and 2015 were used in this research. The report was published in the Journal of the American Medical Associationâs JAMA Internal Medicine. It states, âPatients cared for by female physicians had lower 30-day mortality than did patients treated by male physicians.â Again, the difference may appear small, and Jha understands this outlook on the research. However Jhaâs team ensures their readers that this matters to patient mortality. Over this four year span, a little below 11 percent of patients that were treated by female doctors died within a month of being admitted to the hospital, while 11.5 percent of patients that were treated by male doctors died within a month. On this same note, 15 percent of patients that were treated by female doctors ended up returning to the hospital within the month while 15.5 percent of patients treated by male doctors ended up returning. According to the researchers, âWe estimate that approximately 32,000 fewer patients would die if male physicians could achieve the same outcomes as female physicians every year.â This is, obviously, a bold statement to make based on gender, and one that we shouldnât take lightly. Further research will certainly need to be conducted to ascertain how much of this depends on gender dynamics and how much depends on chance and other confounding factors. According to the researchers, âPrevious work has shown that female physicians have a more patient-centered communication style, are more encouraging and reassuring, and have longer visits than male physicians.â And again, the issue here isnât just concerning the patients, but also the wage gap that, according to this data, isnât warranted. According to Dr. Anna Parks (University of California, San Francisco), âDespite evidence suggesting that female physicians may provide higher-quality care, some have argued that career interruptions for childrearing, higher rates of part-time employment, and greater tradeoffs between home and work responsibilities may compromise the quality of care provided by female physicians and justify higher salaried among male physicians.â So what exactly is this wage gap? According to one study, white, male doctors averaged an annual salary of $250K while white, female doctors averaged an annual salary of $163K. And, according to Parks, this isnât justified as male doctors donât focus as much on the patients as female doctors. So what are the potential solutions to this problem? Some researchers suggest that physicians be paid based on performance, as this would create pay by merit. That being said, this is difficult to implement as itâs almost impossible to define âgood performanceâ in such a situational setting. For instance, would oncology doctors perform worse than pediatricians on average? Of course. That being said, these researchers from this study still believe that performance-based pay could be an answer to the wage gap. But a true correction to the problem would just be to pay men and women the same salaries for the same levels at the same jobs. In other words: equal pay for equal work. Jha also notes the importance of determining what the differences between male and female doctorsâ patient results entail in order to teach doctors how best to perform their duties.
Threesome Tutoring Dinner Table
Threesome Tutoring Dinner TableThreesome tutoring can help people who are contemplating the possibility of having a threesome in the near future by helping them learn how to negotiate and deal with the questions that might arise. Not only will the threesome session at the tutoring dinner table help to introduce the participants into this exciting opportunity, but it can also serve as a great opportunity for them to begin discussing and planning the logistics of the activity. In fact, if you're trying to talk with the participants about your plans for the night, be sure to hold off on actually inviting them. However, it is always best to invite them. In fact, it is crucial that you do so because it will give you the opportunity to establish what exactly you want to talk about with the participants.Just as important, however, is learning how to ensure that the threesome activities run smoothly. This means that if you plan to include the participants at the dinner table, make sure that t hey are provided with food and drink beforehand. It also means that you should set up the set-up ahead of time so that it is ready for use during the evening. For example, you might think it would be a good idea to have the two people who are involved in the event - a man and a woman - meet for the first time at the dinner table. But you can also choose to offer a camera and a microphone to each participant so that you can record the entire event. This will allow you to play it back at a later date so that everyone can see and hear everything that happened. If you are going to include both men and women, you may also want to consider getting the right equipment so that you can record the entire event. The right equipment also serves to make sure that you know exactly what is happening at the time. This is very important because it will allow you to decide if the participants are enjoying themselves.Without the proper equipment, you might be able to get away with a less than perfect ev ent. It is important that you keep that in mind.So remember, when you plan your threesome dinner table, be sure to prepare for the night ahead by prepping the participants with dinner and drinks beforehand. If you're lucky, you might even be able to entice a few new participants to join the evening.
What Is Reactant Chemistry?
What Is Reactant Chemistry? One of the most misunderstood and least understood subject in the scientific world is Reactant Chemistry. I am a fellow chemist, but I want to stress that if you are in any medical or scientific lab, then you will know that this is one of the key components in your overall research workflow. This topic is not as easy to understand as it might seem on the surface, mainly because we, as humans, tend to fall prey to confirmation bias and overconfidence when we are under pressure. Let me share with you a little example to illustrate how this works.Say that you are developing an anti-cancer drug. You have all the relevant studies to support your claim, so you go ahead and run the whole process to find out the results. But the only problem with this is that, when your study comes back positive, we all start making assertions about what we learned from it. The next thing you know, other laboratories are also confirming your findings and you are still left scratchi ng your head wondering if it is really as accurate as it appears. Now, there are certain terms you have to know in order to gain a better understanding of how to run a clinical trial with reactant chemistry in mind. I will try to explain them in this short article, because this is really important to understand how you can conduct your own clinical trials. If you read the materials on your own, then you may not fully grasp what I am trying to tell you here.First, let's start with a word called a potential molecular target. The process of manufacturing molecules in the body is called metabolism. Metabolism is the property that allows the cells to function and produce energy in the body. In the metabolic process, one molecule may produce a second or a third molecule, and so on.This potential molecular target acts as a guide for enzymes to go and move molecules into specific target sites, and all reactions take place in a precise way, or at least according to the reaction code that is s et. By definition, it should always move in the direction of the next molecule it encounters and there shouldn't be any side effects. So, you see, a molecule can't be created in the body, unless there is a reaction with something else. That something else is the new molecule and we all know that chemicals don't change their state unless they have been modified by some external influence. There is just too much confusion involved to try and explain that.To recap, I would like to emphasize that reactant chemistry is the process that allows molecules to move in the direction of their target and create the desired products. Metabolism is what moves the molecules into the target sites, but this can be modified by the environment or by reaction with something else. Learn more about how this works and the role of reactant chemistry in your clinical trials, and you will know exactly what you need to do.
Coterminal Angles
Coterminal Angles Coterminal angles are the angles having common terminal side. For an angle there are two sides initial side and a terminal side. Initial side means the line where we start measuring the angle (that is x-axis). Terminal side is a line where we stop measuring the angle. Initial side and terminal side are clearly shown in the below figure. In this 30o, 360o, -330o are Coterminal angles. Now let us draw the figure:- In simple words, the angles in a standard position that are having same terminal side are called coterminal angles. To find angles coterminal with a given angle we have to add and subtract 360 degree. Here are some examples that show you how to find coterminal angles. Example 1: Among the given pairs identify coterminal angles (60, 410), (60, - 300), (60, 240), (45, 135). Solution: To find coterminal angle with a given angle we have to subtract 360 from the given angle. = Let us take first angle = 60 (from given pairs 3 pairs having first angle 60) = Now subtract 360 from 60: 60 360 = -300 = So, from the given pairs (60, - 300) is the coterminal angles pair. Example 2: Find a positive and a negative angle coterminal with a 65 angle. Solution: To find a positive and a negative angle coterminal with a 65 = We have to add and subtract 360 from a given angle = 65 360 = 295 = 65 + 360 = 425 = Therefore, 65, 295, 425 are coterminal angles.
